Kerala BJP Youth Wing Steps Up Protests Against CM V.D. Satheesan

Yuva Morcha workers have staged black-flag demonstrations targeting Satheesan and other Congress leaders and ministers at multiple locations. The protests have widened the political confrontation between the Congress-led UDF government and the BJP's youth organisation. Recent reports have confirmed black-flag protests against Satheesan's convoy in Kannur, with police intervening to prevent protesters from blocking his route.

The BJP's youth wing has said its actions are in response to the Youth Congress demonstration against Shah in Kollam last week. Yuva Morcha workers have also targeted State Sports Minister and Youth Congress president O.J. Janeesh. On Tuesday, protesters attempted to block Janeesh's vehicle in Balaramapuram and waved black flags before police intervened.

The protests have also extended to State Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala and Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Yuva Morcha workers staged separate black-flag demonstrations against the two leaders in Kozhikode district, with police taking protesters into custody.

In another incident, Youth Congress and Yuva Morcha workers clashed in Balaramapuram after the BJP youth wing attempted to stop Janeesh's vehicle. Police intervened and separated the two groups.

The political confrontation has also spilled beyond street protests. Two Congress offices were reportedly damaged after stones were allegedly thrown at the premises. The incidents prompted criticism from Congress leaders, who said political protests could be conducted as part of democratic activity but should not involve violence or damage to property.

The BJP has continued to frame the protests as a response to the demonstration against Shah, with its leaders alleging that adequate security was not provided to the Union Home Minister during his Kerala visit. The Youth Congress, meanwhile, has maintained that its protest against Shah was part of its wider political campaign. Youth Congress working president Binu Chulliyil said the organisation would also protest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi if required.

The latest developments have also prompted increased attention to the security arrangements surrounding Satheesan and other ministers as protests continue to target political leaders' convoys.

The BJP youth wing has indicated that its demonstrations will continue, keeping tensions between the two political camps elevated across Kerala in the days ahead.
