The Kerala BJP has approached Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar seeking action against State Sports Minister O.J. Janeesh over his alleged involvement in a Youth Congress protest.
A BJP delegation led by party leader Krishnadas met the Governor on Saturday and submitted a representation on behalf of state BJP president Rajeev Chandrasekhar.
The BJP has alleged that Janeesh, who also heads the Youth Congress in Kerala, violated his oath of office by allegedly directing party workers to stage the protest against Shah.
According to the BJP, Youth Congress activists attempted to approach Shah's convoy during his September 26 visit to Kollam. The party described the incident as a serious security lapse and said Janeesh's reported acknowledgement of responsibility warranted a criminal investigation.
Krishnadas alleged that the incident could indicate a broader conspiracy and urged the Governor to intervene.
The security allegations have been disputed by the police. Authorities have maintained that Shah's convoy was not obstructed and that protesters were removed from the area before the convoy reached the location.
Krishnadas said the BJP had requested an appointment with the Governor and was permitted to meet him before his scheduled departure from the state. He also questioned criticism surrounding the meeting taking place outside Raj Bhavan.
The BJP delegation separately levelled allegations against the Kerala government, claiming that banned or allegedly extremist organisations had exerted influence over the administration. It also alleged links involving the Jamaat-e-Islami and the Indian Union Muslim League.
The BJP further alleged an understanding between the Congress and the CPI(M) in connection with an Enforcement Directorate investigation involving former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and members of his family, and called for action in the matter.
The claims made by the BJP regarding political links and alleged conspiracies remain allegations and have not been established as facts.
The dispute over the Shah protest has continued to fuel political tensions in Kerala, with the BJP maintaining pressure on the state government and subsequent demonstrations being held over the incident, including protests targeting Janeesh.
