Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Friday held bilateral talks with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk in Bengaluru and invited Poland to participate as a country partner in the state's Global Investors.
During the meeting, Shivakumar highlighted a proposed investment of Rs 80 crore by a Polish business group, which is expected to generate around 1,000 jobs in Karnataka.
Tusk and his delegation arrived in Bengaluru from New Delhi on Thursday night for a series of engagements. The meeting at Taj West End was attended by Polish Finance Minister Andrzej Domański and senior officials from both sides.
Representing Karnataka, Heavy and Medium Industries and Infrastructure Development Minister M.B. Patil, IT-BT and Home Minister Priyank Kharge, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Tushar Giri Nath, and Industries and Commerce Department Principal Secretary S. Selvakumar were present.
Welcoming the Polish delegation, Shivakumar described Bengaluru as a global centre for technology, innovation and entrepreneurship. He said Karnataka was keen to expand cooperation with Poland in investment, technology, innovation and employment.
The Deputy Chief Minister identified advanced manufacturing, artificial intelligence, healthcare and medical products as key sectors with potential for greater Polish investment. He said the state wanted to attract businesses that could introduce new technologies, strengthen local industries, create skilled jobs and expand exports.
Shivakumar also highlighted existing cooperation between Karnataka and Poland, referring to a Letter of Intent signed with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Katowice and Kato.hub. The agreement aims to promote collaboration in artificial intelligence, gaming and deep-tech innovation, including a proposed Karnataka-Katowice Digital and Gaming Corridor.
The proposed initiative is expected to create opportunities for startups, technology companies and research institutions from both sides to collaborate, develop new solutions and explore new markets.
He encouraged Polish companies to consider Bengaluru's technology ecosystem, particularly in artificial intelligence, software, gaming, robotics, smart manufacturing and startup innovation. He also called for stronger partnerships in research, education and technology transfer to support skilled employment.
Citing Infosys's nearly two-decade presence in Poland, Shivakumar pointed to the potential for expanding technology and business ties between the two regions. He said Karnataka would facilitate Polish investments in Bengaluru while helping companies from the state explore opportunities in Poland.
Renewable energy, waste-to-energy projects, sludge management, wastewater treatment and circular economy solutions were also identified as potential areas of cooperation. Shivakumar said Polish expertise in these fields could support Karnataka's environmental goals and sustainable industrial development.
He further invited Polish businesses to explore opportunities in information technology, software services, pharmaceuticals and research and development, as well as the state's energy, petrochemical and advanced manufacturing sectors.
Emphasising that Karnataka's investment potential extended beyond Bengaluru, Shivakumar urged Polish companies to explore industrial opportunities across the state's districts and benefit from its broader manufacturing and business ecosystem.
