Karnataka BJP President B.Y. Vijayendra alleged that the Congress’s internal power struggle had become increasingly visible, questioning the state government over the circumstances and motives behind a sting operation.
Vijayendra demanded that the government clarify who conducted the operation, who was behind it and whose interests it was intended to serve.
He said reports had emerged of Siddaramaiah expressing dissatisfaction over the developments, while the former Chief Minister’s son had also commented on the matter. Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy had separately held a press conference and raised several questions about the operation, he added.
Vijayendra urged the Home Minister and other Congress leaders to address these questions instead of targeting Kumaraswamy for political reasons.
He was speaking at a press conference ahead of the BJP’s nationwide public awareness campaign, titled ‘Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy’, which was scheduled to begin in Kolar on Tuesday.
BJP Launches Nationwide Campaign
BJP National General Secretary and Karnataka in-charge Harish Dwivedi, former Chief Minister and party Parliamentary Board member B.S. Yediyurappa, Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly R. Ashoka, Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy and other senior leaders were scheduled to participate in the padayatra.
Vijayendra said the campaign aimed to defend India's democratic system and uphold the dignity of constitutional institutions.
He accused Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, of repeatedly spreading misinformation about constitutional institutions because they were unable to accept Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s popularity.
He further alleged that the Congress was attempting to portray the BJP-led government at the Centre as having assumed power through unfair means. According to Vijayendra, the party had failed to accept successive electoral setbacks and was trying to create confusion and instability.
BJP Raises Karnataka Unemployment and Recruitment Issues
Turning to state-level issues, Vijayendra accused the Congress government of neglecting unemployed youth, claiming that nearly 2.5 lakh government posts remained vacant in Karnataka.
He said young people across the state were protesting over alleged irregularities in the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) recruitment process. He also criticised the government over its handling of the reservation issue before the Karnataka High Court.
Vijayendra said thousands of candidates had spent years preparing for competitive examinations and waiting for recruitment opportunities, but government inaction had left their futures uncertain. He alleged that the administration's failure to address their concerns had forced unemployed youth to take to the streets.
BJP Criticises Price Hikes Ahead of Festivals
Vijayendra also criticised the Congress government over increases in the prices of essential commodities and public transport fares during Deepavali and Kannada Rajyotsava.
He objected to the revision in milk prices, saying that an announced increase of Rs 8 per litre had translated into an additional burden of up to Rs 12 for consumers following different price adjustments.
While welcoming the decision to provide an additional Rs 7 to milk producers, he said farmers deserved better returns. However, he argued that the government should have borne the cost of the incentive rather than passing the entire financial burden on to consumers.
He also criticised an increase of approximately Rs 14 per litre in curd prices, claiming it had added to the financial pressure on households already dealing with rising living costs.
BJP Predicts Electoral Setback for Congress
Vijayendra said the outcome of the recent Legislative Council elections reflected growing public dissatisfaction with the Congress government.
He accused the party of failing to fulfil hundreds of promises made before coming to power and claimed that public anger could not be contained through meetings and political discussions among senior leaders.
Expressing confidence ahead of the forthcoming bye-elections, including the contest in Hiriyur, he said voters would hold the Congress government accountable at the ballot box.
