Devpalik Gupta, digital communication manager of the Jan Suraaj Party, has gone missing while travelling from Ranchi to Patna, prompting a joint search operation by the Railway Protection Force (RPF).
Gupta, 31, a native of Kushinagar district in Uttar Pradesh, was travelling to Patna ahead of the announcement of the Bihar Legislative Council election results. His whereabouts have remained unknown since Monday afternoon.
According to an appeal circulated by his family and friends, Gupta boarded the Jan Shatabdi Express at Ranchi railway station at around 2.25 p.m. on Monday, accompanied by his friend and colleague, Gautam Kumar.
Kumar confirmed that they had boarded the train together. However, the circumstances surrounding Gupta’s disappearance remain unclear.
Reports indicate that Gupta got off the train before it reached Muri Junction. No confirmed information about his movements after that point has emerged so far.
RPF and GRP Launch Joint Search
Ashish Kumar Pandey, RPF Commandant for the Ranchi Railway Division, said a complaint had been lodged at the Muri GRP police station. The RPF and GRP are working together to locate Gupta.
According to Pandey, investigators are examining multiple possibilities, including whether Gupta left the train and entered a nearby forest or whether another incident took place.
His mobile phone remains switched off, and its last recorded activity was around 2 a.m. on Tuesday, the commandant said. He added that the investigation was continuing and that further details would emerge as the search progressed.
A team is carrying out efforts to establish Gupta’s whereabouts.
Family Appeals for Information
Gupta’s family, friends and colleagues have appealed to the public for any information that could help trace him.
An alumnus of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), Delhi, Gupta belongs to the institution’s 2018 batch. He serves as the digital communication manager for the Jan Suraaj Party, founded by political strategist Prashant Kishor.
The circumstances of his disappearance remain under investigation. Authorities have yet to establish what happened after he reportedly left the train, and no definitive explanation has been confirmed.
