Jaipur Man Allegedly Kills Elder Brother in Property Dispute After Returning From US

Police have arrested the accused and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing.

The incident occurred near Ram Park, around 300 metres from the brothers’ residence in Sindhi Colony, behind Sant Kanwar Ram Park.

According to police, 65-year-old Shyam Bagani had left his home on a scooter to visit a temple when his younger brother, Murli Bagani, allegedly stopped him near the park.

Bani Park SHO Suresh Yadav said Murli initially attacked Shyam with a stick before allegedly taking out a knife and stabbing him. Shyam suffered critical injuries and was rushed to SMS Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Police and a Forensic Science Laboratory team examined the scene and collected evidence following the incident. Murli has been taken into custody and is being questioned.

The preliminary investigation has pointed to a long-running dispute between the brothers over their ancestral property. Police are examining whether disagreements over the division of the family property ultimately led to Tuesday’s confrontation.

The family originally had three brothers. Their eldest sibling, Prakash Bagani, died in the United States in 2014. Shyam was the second brother, while Murli was the youngest.

Shyam was living at the family home in Jaipur along with his family. His son, Chirag Bagani, works online, according to police.

Murli had reportedly spent around 24 years abroad and was living in Belize City, Central America. His wife and children are currently based in the United States.

Police said Murli returned to Jaipur around 11 months ago after suffering business losses. Since then, he had been living in Shekhawati Nagar on Sikar Road.

Investigators also found that a dowry harassment case had previously been registered against Murli at Mahila North Police Station in Jaipur before he moved abroad. Police said he was arrested in connection with that case on September 6 and was later released from custody.

Following his release, a fresh disagreement allegedly developed between Murli and Shyam over the division of ancestral property, according to the preliminary investigation.

Police are now examining the sequence of events leading up to the stabbing, including the brothers’ property dispute and the circumstances surrounding their confrontation near Ram Park. The investigation is ongoing.
