Iranian MP Ali Haddadi called for coordinated international action against violations of the principles of the United Nations Charter, invoking the deaths of children in Minab and urging the global community.
Addressing the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum in New Delhi, Haddadi placed a schoolbag on the podium in memory of the children killed in an attack on a school in the Iranian city earlier this year.
The Iranian Embassy in India shared details of his address on social media, stating that Haddadi had highlighted the deaths of children and other civilians while calling for collective action to uphold the principles of the UN Charter.
The embassy said he had urged the international community to take a “clear and firm” position against crimes against humanity.
Iran Recalls Deadly School Strike in Minab
According to the report, more than 160 children were killed in a strike on Shajareh Tayyibeh School in Minab at the start of the US-Israeli war against Iran on February 28.
Haddadi’s gesture at the parliamentary forum was intended to commemorate the children killed in the incident and draw attention to the wider consequences of armed conflict for civilians.
His remarks placed civilian protection, accountability and adherence to international principles at the centre of Iran’s message at the gathering.
Iranian Delegation Holds Talks with Brazil and China
The Iranian parliamentary delegation also held bilateral discussions with representatives from other BRICS countries on the sidelines of the forum.
Iranian MP Ahmad Naderi, who heads the country’s parliamentary delegation, met the head of Brazil’s parliamentary delegation to discuss regional and international developments and opportunities to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
The Iranian Embassy said the discussions focused on expanding parliamentary engagement and exchanging views on issues of mutual interest.
Naderi also met the head of China’s parliamentary delegation. Both sides emphasised the importance of broadening bilateral cooperation across different sectors, with parliamentary engagement identified as a key area.
Iranian Delegation Meets Indian Leaders
Earlier, members of the Iranian parliamentary delegation met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Congress MP Shashi Tharoor during the BRICS Parliamentary Forum.
The Iranian Embassy described the interactions as courtesy calls that underscored the importance of relations between India and Iran.
The delegation arrived in New Delhi on Sunday to participate in the two-day forum, which brings together parliamentary leaders from BRICS member and partner countries.
The discussions are focused on strengthening parliamentary cooperation and advancing people-centred development, alongside exchanges on regional and international issues.
