India's National Telemedicine Service, eSanjeevani, crossed the milestone of 50 crore teleconsultations, recording 50,00,92,730 consultations cumulatively as of Sept 15, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said,
The ministry said the milestone reflects the growing use of digital technology to make healthcare more accessible, affordable and equitable for people across the country.
The platform currently supports more than 1.42 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandir spokes, 19,473 medical hubs and 901 online OPDs. It has 2,41,923 registered healthcare providers on its network.
eSanjeevani is also being integrated with other digital public services to strengthen healthcare delivery. Its integration with the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS)-112 is intended to improve coordination between emergency response services and remote medical expertise.
The platform currently facilitates around 2.5 lakh to 3 lakh consultations every day and is available in 15 languages, including English and 14 Indian languages. Its highest single-day usage has reached 6,30,315 consultations.
Women account for 57.14 per cent of total consultations on the platform, while people aged 46 and above account for 40.15 per cent of its overall usage. Senior citizens aged 60 and above represent 16.25 per cent of consultations.
The usage patterns indicate the platform's growing role among sections of the population for whom accessing physical healthcare facilities can involve significant travel, time or other logistical challenges.
The government has continued to expand eSanjeevani's capabilities by incorporating emerging technologies aimed at improving the quality of telemedicine services.
One of the recent additions is an artificial intelligence-powered Clinical Decision Support System (AI-CDSS), which assists healthcare providers during consultations and is designed to support the quality, consistency and efficiency of clinical decision-making.
The telemedicine service is also expanding beyond primary healthcare by facilitating remote access to specialist consultations through leading government medical institutions.
Patient-to-doctor teleconsultation services in selected specialities have been introduced at AIIMS Jodhpur, AIIMS Jammu and AIIMS Patna, allowing patients to consult specialists remotely from their homes.
The expansion is expected to reduce the need for patients to travel long distances and wait at tertiary-care hospitals while improving access to specialist medical expertise.
The government said the continued expansion of eSanjeevani demonstrates how digital healthcare platforms can help extend medical services to people across different regions and improve access to healthcare without requiring physical visits for every consultation.
