India is preparing to send a large, multi-sector business delegation to the United States early next year as New Delhi looks to expand commercial ties and create more opportunities for Indian and American companies.

India is preparing to send a large, multi-sector business delegation to the United States early next year as New Delhi looks to expand commercial ties and create more opportunities for Indian and American companies, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said.

Speaking at an interaction with Indian-Americans in Chicago, organised by the US Indian Community Foundation, Goyal said the delegation could travel to the US during the first quarter of 2027.

Goyal said a business delegation had initially been planned alongside his current visit to the US but could not be accommodated because of his schedule at the G20 Trade Ministers' Meeting in Milwaukee.

“We thought we will do that very soon, maybe in the first quarter of next year. We will have a very large Indian delegation, multi-sectoral come here,” Goyal said.

The proposed mission is expected to bring companies from multiple sectors to the US and provide them with opportunities to engage directly with American businesses, investors and industry organisations.

Goyal also said India would seek to increase the participation of Indian companies in trade fairs across the US. Discussions in Chicago had highlighted the possibility of greater Indian participation in existing trade exhibitions as well as exploring additional opportunities in Chicago and other American cities.

“We will make sure Indians come in larger numbers and present what the India story is,” Goyal said.

The minister's comments came after a day of meetings with US businesses and investors in Chicago. He said he had interacted with companies of different sizes through the US Chamber of Commerce and held several individual meetings with major investors.

Goyal also assured American businesses and Indian-American entrepreneurs that the Indian government would provide support to companies looking to invest in the country.

He pointed to Invest India as a key institution that can assist investors and said India's diplomatic and commerce officials in the US could help connect companies with relevant government agencies and address issues they encounter while establishing operations in India.

The proposed delegation is part of a broader effort to deepen commercial engagement between India and the US. Bilateral economic ties span areas including manufacturing, technology, services, investment and trade.

During his Chicago interaction, Goyal also encouraged Indian-Americans to contribute to India's economic expansion through investment, technology partnerships and knowledge-sharing. He highlighted India's large domestic market, young population and growing network of international trade relationships as opportunities for businesses.

“The United States of America has capital strength, technology strength. India has ambition,” Goyal said, describing the two countries as having complementary economic strengths.

Goyal arrived in Chicago after representing India at the G20 Trade Ministers' Meeting in Milwaukee. The meeting covered issues including forced labour, the future of the World Trade Organization and the impact of state-supported excess production capacity on global manufacturing.

The proposed business mission would provide another platform for Indian companies to explore American markets and for US investors and businesses to identify potential partnerships and investment opportunities in India.
