The INDIA bloc will continue its political agitation demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar while pursuing its legal challenge in the Supreme Court, Communist Party of India (Marxist)

The Opposition leaders maintained that the alliance remained committed to the campaign, adding that the next phase of the protests would be decided through consultations and coordination among its constituent parties.

CPI(M) MP John Brittas said the agitation would continue despite a temporary break for parliamentarians to return to their constituencies and attend to their responsibilities.

Brittas said the Opposition would pursue both legal and political avenues to press its demand for Kumar's removal. He added that INDIA bloc MPs had agreed in principle to assemble in New Delhi at 24 hours' notice if the alliance decided to intensify the campaign.

CPI(M) General Secretary M.A. Baby described the campaign as part of a broader effort to protect constitutional values and demand accountability from institutions such as the Election Commission of India.

Baby said the movement could expand through different forms of engagement, adding that several organisations, including student groups, had approached the alliance seeking discussions about the campaign.

He also called for wider deliberations on the legal protections and immunity available to constitutional functionaries, arguing that the issue required collective consideration.

CPI General Secretary D. Raja reiterated that INDIA bloc leaders remained united in their decision to continue the agitation. He said alliance leaders had reviewed the recent protest in Delhi and expressed appreciation for the response to the Opposition's call.

Raja added that the timing, duration and future course of the demonstrations would be determined through consultations among the alliance partners.

Emphasising the Opposition's resolve, he said the campaign would continue rather than allowing the issue to fade from public attention.

The INDIA bloc's planned continuation of the agitation comes amid its objections to the Election Commission's functioning and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The alliance is pursuing its demand for the CEC's removal through political demonstrations alongside the legal proceedings before the Supreme Court.
