Indian Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal AP Singh flew alongside senior wing cadet Jakkula Tejasvi Reddy of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) at the Air Force Academy in Dundigal, Hyderabad, on Friday.
The sortie took place just days before the Air Chief’s scheduled final flight with his first flying instructor. The initiative offered Cadet Tejasvi an opportunity to experience military aviation at close quarters and learn about the skills required to become an aviator.
Air Chief Marshal Singh is due to retire this month. Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit is scheduled to assume charge as the next Chief of the Air Staff on October 31.
Cadet Receives Practical Flying Experience
Ahead of the flight, Cadet Tejasvi underwent cockpit familiarisation, safety briefings, instruction on ejection procedures and medical examinations.
Before taking off in a Kiran aircraft, the IAF chief explained its specifications, major components, engine functioning, cockpit procedures and safety systems. During the sortie, he introduced the cadet to various flight manoeuvres, flight angles and steep turns, while also allowing her to practise manoeuvres under his supervision.
The experience provided Tejasvi with practical insight into aviation and encouraged her to pursue her ambition of becoming an aviator. It also demonstrated how NCC Air Wing cadets can gain exposure to flying and explore career opportunities in the armed forces.
The sortie underscored the importance of technical knowledge, sound decision-making, constant vigilance and strict adherence to safety protocols in aircraft operations.
NCC Focuses on Youth Development
The initiative also highlighted the role of the NCC in familiarising young people with aviation and introducing them to potential careers in the defence services.
In a statement, the NCC said it was expanding its training programmes to develop skills, confidence and leadership qualities among young people.
Aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, the organisation aims to help young people develop their abilities and contribute to nation-building, the statement added.
