Several parts of Tamil Nadu are expected to receive moderate rainfall accompanied by strong winds over the weekend, with the Meteorological Department forecasting heavy rain in the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Dindigul.
The weather system driving the rainfall is a cyclonic circulation located over the southeastern Arabian Sea off the Kerala coast. According to the Meteorological Department, the circulation is likely to influence weather conditions across parts of Tamil Nadu over the next two days.
The Western Ghats districts are expected to see moderate showers, while several southern and central districts are also likely to receive rainfall. Madurai, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram and Sivaganga are among the areas covered by the forecast.
Pudukkottai, Tiruchirappalli, Ariyalur and Perambalur are also expected to experience moderate rain, with strong winds accompanying the showers in several locations.
Rainfall intensity is expected to vary across the state, with the heaviest precipitation concentrated in parts of the hills and areas bordering the Western Ghats.
The Meteorological Centre has issued a specific heavy-rain forecast for the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Dindigul and Theni for Sunday, October 4.
Other western districts, including Salem, Erode, Namakkal, Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri, are expected to receive moderate rainfall on Sunday as the weather system continues to influence the region.
The wet conditions could persist for longer in the Nilgiris and Coimbatore. The Meteorological Centre has forecast heavy rainfall in both districts through October 6, extending the period of concern beyond the weekend.
Chennai is expected to experience comparatively lighter weather, with the forecast indicating the possibility of light rain on Saturday evening or during the night.
The overall outlook points to a spell of unsettled weather across several parts of Tamil Nadu, with strong winds likely to accompany rainfall in the Western Ghats and parts of the southern and central districts through the weekend.
