Guwahati Nightclub Assault Allegations: Manager Detained as Police Probe Incident

Assam Police have begun investigating allegations that a woman was stripped and assaulted inside a nightclub in Guwahati's Khanapara area, with the establishment's manager detained for questioning and other staff members being examined.

The incident is reported to have occurred on Friday at The Locals Cafe and Lounge. Videos purportedly showing the episode have circulated on social media, prompting concern over the treatment of the woman inside the premises.

One video appears to show a woman lying on the floor without clothes while two women, reportedly bouncers at the nightclub, kick and assault her. Several men can be seen in the vicinity. Another clip appears to show a woman approaching the victim, although the view is subsequently obstructed by a vehicle.

Police are investigating the circumstances that preceded the alleged assault, including whether an altercation between the woman and nightclub staff triggered the confrontation.

Preliminary information suggests that the woman was allegedly pushed to the ground and assaulted inside the establishment before being taken from the fourth floor towards what appeared to be a parking or basement area.

DCP East Tabu Ram Pegu said the nightclub manager had been detained for questioning. Police are also questioning other employees and examining available evidence before deciding on further legal action.

The woman's identity has not been established by authorities so far.

A security guard has reportedly claimed that an argument began after a female bouncer objected to the woman's clothing and that the woman subsequently attacked the bouncer with a bottle. Police are examining this account as part of their investigation, and the claim has not been independently verified.

Investigators are expected to review the videos circulating online, question additional staff members and establish the sequence of events inside the nightclub. They are also examining why the woman was allegedly moved from the fourth floor to a lower section of the premises and what occurred during that period.

The nightclub management has not so far issued a detailed public response to the allegations.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident and the roles of those present at the establishment when the alleged assault occurred.
