The Gujarat government has begun construction of an Rs 80.25-crore 'Yatri Niwas' in Ayodhya, designed to accommodate 308 people and a large hall with seating for 864, to serve devotees & tourists travelling from Gujarat.
The Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Ltd is developing the facility on a 6,929.28-square-metre plot in an upcoming township in Ayodhya. Construction is already underway, and the state government expects to open the facility to visitors from Gujarat within about a year.
The complex will offer rooms in different categories along with a reception centre and visitors' lounge. Other planned facilities include a souvenir shop, multipurpose hall, auditorium, meeting rooms and a dining area.
The project will also feature a terrace garden, digital display systems and landscaped spaces as part of the visitor amenities.
Officials said the project is being developed under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi.
The state government said the Yatri Niwas is intended to provide accommodation and other facilities to people from Gujarat visiting Ayodhya for religious and cultural purposes. It is also expected to serve as a base for groups travelling to the city.
The project comes amid the continued flow of devotees and tourists to Ayodhya following the consecration of the Ram temple in January 2024, which has drawn visitors from across India and abroad.
Gujarat had previously announced plans to establish a Yatri Bhavan in Ayodhya for pilgrims from the state. In March 2024, the government had allocated Rs 50 crore for the proposed facility.
The latest project has a larger planned capacity and a wider range of visitor amenities. According to the state government, the Yatri Niwas will offer visitors a home-like stay while strengthening the cultural and spiritual connection between Gujarat and Ayodhya.
