Police have uncovered two alleged ganja cultivation operations in Sabarkantha district's Poshina taluka, where cannabis plants were being grown discreetly among cotton crops. More than 475 kg of ganja was seized.

The Special Operations Group (SOG) recovered 666 ganja plants weighing 401.730 kg from agricultural land in Anjani village. The seized cannabis was valued at approximately Rs 2.01 crore.

Shrinbhai Gamar was arrested in connection with the seizure, while police are continuing efforts to trace another accused, identified as Manabhai Gamar.

According to the SOG, its personnel were conducting patrols in villages along the Poshina border when they received information that ganja was allegedly being cultivated on agricultural land in Jalera Faliya of Anjani. Since officers were initially unable to reach the location, they used technical surveillance to verify the information.

A subsequent search of the land allegedly revealed cannabis plants being cultivated beneath and among cotton crops. Police then initiated proceedings under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

In a separate operation in the Ro-Padola Faliya area of Kalikankar village, personnel from Poshina Police Station recovered another 322 ganja plants weighing 73.662 kg. The seized cannabis was estimated to be worth Rs 36.83 lakh.

Three men identified as Jayeshbhai Gamar, 30, Arjunbhai Gamar, 31, and Govindbhai Gamar, 33, were arrested in the second case.

Police said the three accused, all residents of Ro-Padola Faliya, were allegedly cultivating the cannabis on agricultural land under their possession and concealing the plants among cotton crops.

The second operation followed information received by Surveillance PSI V.B. Meghnathi from a human source while police personnel were patrolling the Poshina Police Station area.

After verifying the information, the team searched the location and recovered the cannabis plants.

Police have registered cases under the NDPS Act in both incidents, with further investigation underway.
