Police have uncovered illegal ganja cultivation at two locations in Gujarat's Sabarkantha district, where cannabis plants had allegedly been grown discreetly among cotton crops. More than 475 kg of ganja was seized.

The first seizure was carried out by the Special Operations Group (SOG) in Anjani village of Poshina taluka. Police recovered 666 ganja plants weighing 401.730 kg, with an estimated value of Rs 2,00,86,500.

Shrinbhai Gamar was arrested in connection with the seizure, while another accused, Manabhai Gamar, remains wanted, police said.

According to the SOG, the operation began after personnel patrolling villages along the Poshina border received information that ganja was allegedly being cultivated on agricultural land in Jalera Faliya of Anjani. Since the team could not immediately reach the location, technical surveillance was used to verify the information.

A subsequent search reportedly found the cannabis plants growing under the cover of cotton crops. Police then initiated proceedings under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

In a separate operation in Kalikankar village, personnel from Poshina Police Station recovered another 322 ganja plants weighing 73.662 kg and valued at Rs 36,83,400.

Three men identified as Jayeshbhai Gamar, 30, Arjunbhai Gamar, 31, and Govindbhai Gamar, 33, were arrested in the second case. Police said all three are residents of Ro-Padola Faliya in Kalikankar and alleged that the cannabis was cultivated on agricultural land under their possession, again concealed among cotton plants.

The second operation followed information received by Surveillance PSI V.B. Meghnathi while he and other police personnel were conducting patrols in the Poshina Police Station area.

Police subsequently verified the information and searched the location, leading to the recovery of the cannabis plants.

Authorities have registered cases under the NDPS Act in both incidents, and further investigation is underway.
