Prime Minister Narendra Modi said his constant desire to learn has remained an important part of his life, adding that he continues to see himself as a student and believes learning more enhances his ability to serve.
Addressing the 'Viksit Bharat Sankalp Sabha', Modi recalled his school days in Vadnagar and said his teachers used different methods to impart lessons. He said he was often among the students who reached the classroom early.
The Prime Minister said his eagerness to learn has stayed with him over the years and that he tries to learn something new every day. He added that he had prayed for the ability to continue learning and improving throughout his life.
Looking back on his journey, Modi said he felt grateful for the people and experiences that had shaped him.
He said those who helped him succeed taught him humility, while setbacks taught him to rise again. According to Modi, supporters demonstrated the importance of trust, while critics encouraged him to reflect on himself. Those who opposed him, he said, helped him understand the importance of democracy.
Modi said the challenges and achievements of his public life had shaped his sense of responsibility towards the country.
He said every crisis had tested his patience, while every success had increased his sense of responsibility and every achievement had encouraged him to pursue larger goals. He added that he did not consider any event in his life to have been without purpose, as each experience had taught him something.
Recalling major events during his public life, Modi said the Morbi floods taught him the importance of sustained relief and service work. The Bhuj earthquake, he said, taught him the need for determination during reconstruction efforts.
He also referred to the Chandrayaan mission as an example of learning from failure and said the Covid-19 pandemic highlighted the importance of collective national effort.
The Prime Minister also acknowledged the role of the media in his journey, saying that both positive and difficult experiences had provided him with motivation to continue moving forward.
Modi said his experiences had also influenced his approach to policymaking, particularly by reinforcing the need for greater sensitivity towards people's circumstances.
He said visits to villages and interactions with poor citizens had reinforced his belief that limited resources should not restrict people's aspirations, and that determination and ambition should remain strong.
According to Modi, the trust of citizens and their hard work have remained his biggest sources of strength. He added that the people of the country have the greatest claim on his public service.
Modi also expressed gratitude to citizens for placing their trust in him over 25 years of public life, saying that this trust had placed an enormous responsibility on him.
He described the experience and public trust accumulated over those 25 years as a valuable national asset, saying that it belonged not to him personally but to the country and its citizens.
