Department of School Education and Literacy Secretary T. K. Anil Kumar on Monday called for stronger pathways connecting school education with higher studies, vocational training and employment, enabling students.
Addressing the inauguration of the two-day fourth National Summit on ‘Facilitating School-to-Work Transition’ in Delhi, Kumar emphasised the need to equip learners with the skills and guidance required to navigate an evolving employment landscape.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is organising the summit in association with the Sahodaya School Complexes of Delhi-NCR, according to an official statement.
CBSE Chairman Mandeep Bhandari and other senior officials from the Ministry of Education and the board attended the inaugural session.
Four Priorities for Preparing Students for Future Careers
Kumar outlined four key areas for deliberation at the summit: technology, digital safety and skills; design, creativity and innovation; recognition of skills across education systems through the National Credit Framework; and career guidance with equitable learning and employment pathways.
The discussions aim to strengthen the integration of skill education into mainstream schooling and help students move more smoothly from classrooms into the workforce.
The summit brings together school leaders, teachers, industry representatives and policymakers to examine emerging workforce requirements and explore ways to prepare students for future career opportunities.
Focus on Skill Education and NEP 2020
The initiative highlights the need to reduce barriers between different streams of education and ensure that students develop competencies relevant to changing industry and employment demands.
The approach is aligned with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasises integrating vocational education with mainstream learning and providing students with diverse educational and career pathways.
Through interactive sessions and expert discussions, participants are examining innovative teaching practices, emerging assessment methods, the use of digital technologies in education and effective models for expanding skill-based learning.
The summit also provides opportunities for participants to exchange experiences, build professional networks and develop partnerships to support students’ career development.
Educators Share Best Practices in Skill Education
As part of the programme, educators from CBSE-affiliated schools are presenting case-based papers and posters showcasing successful initiatives and best practices in skill education.
The presentations are intended to help participants learn from practical experiences and identify approaches that can strengthen teaching and learning in schools.
According to the statement, the two-day event will also offer insights into emerging trends and transformative practices in school education, alongside practical strategies to improve classroom instruction and better prepare learners for future employment opportunities.
