Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has said the newly opened Dharavi Experience Centre will help residents better understand the proposed redevelopment of the area by allowing them to see.
Fadnavis inaugurated the centre near the Bandra-Kurla Complex in the PMGP Colony's H Block. The facility uses physical models, digital displays and audio-visual technology to present different aspects of the Dharavi Redevelopment Project, including rehabilitation housing, industrial spaces and planned social infrastructure.
Speaking to the media after visiting the centre, Fadnavis said the facility was intended to address rumours, misconceptions and gaps in information surrounding the redevelopment process. He said providing residents with a clearer picture of the proposed changes could help create greater confidence and trust among stakeholders.
Fadnavis described Dharavi as more than a residential settlement, pointing to its substantial economic activity and the businesses operating across the area.
He highlighted industries and enterprises including pottery in Kumbharwada, leather-related businesses, food processing, plastic recycling and a range of micro, small and medium enterprises.
According to the Chief Minister, the redevelopment plan seeks to provide these businesses with more organised and improved workspaces while retaining Dharavi's existing social, cultural and economic character.
He described the project as part of a broader process of urban transformation and said the redevelopment would seek to combine improved infrastructure with the preservation of Dharavi's established communities and economic activity.
The Experience Centre provides information on Dharavi's existing layout as well as the proposed future development. Residents and other visitors can view plans relating to housing, roads, open spaces, social amenities and employment opportunities in one location.
Fadnavis said the centre could also serve as a resource for other stakeholders and researchers examining urban planning and redevelopment.
The facility was inaugurated in the presence of Adani Group Managing Director Pranav Adani, BMC Commissioner Ashwini Bhide, Mumbai Slum Rehabilitation Authority CEO Mahendra Kalyankar, Dharavi Redevelopment Project CEO and SRA Secretary Vipin Paliwal, and Adani Navbharat Developers CEO Anil Sardana, among others.
During his visit, Fadnavis also launched the song "Dharavi Ka Kal", performed by singer Shankar Mahadevan, and released the book *Mere Sapno Ki Dharavi*.
The centre is designed to showcase the proposed transition of Dharavi from its current form to the planned redevelopment through digital and audio-visual presentations, giving residents an opportunity to engage directly with the plans for the area.
