Delhi Police have claimed to have dismantled an interstate network involved in the manufacture and supply of heroin, arresting four people in Uttar Pradesh and recovering 7.076 kg of the narcotic substance valued.
The operation was carried out by the Special Staff of Rohini district police under the supervision of ACP (Operations) Ajmer Singh and Inspector Sandeep Godara. Police said the arrests and seizures have helped uncover a network allegedly involved in manufacturing heroin and supplying it to Delhi-NCR.
According to police, the investigation began after the Special Staff received information about the movement of narcotics in the Begumpur area.
On September 16, a police team intercepted a Grand Vitara in Sector 32, Begumpur, and arrested Laxman Hooda, who was allegedly travelling to the location to deliver heroin. Police said 300 grams of heroin and Rs 3 lakh in cash were recovered from the vehicle.
An FIR was subsequently registered at Begumpur police station under Sections 21, 25 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Investigators then focused on identifying the alleged supplier who had provided the drugs to Hooda. On September 17, police arrested Anil alias Bhola from Sonipat and recovered another 501 grams of heroin from a Mahindra XUV-700, according to officials.
The investigation was subsequently expanded to trace the larger supply chain and locate the suspected facility where the heroin was being manufactured.
Police said a combination of technical surveillance and human intelligence helped investigators identify a suspected manufacturing unit in Sita Colony, Jankipuram, Lucknow.
A Special Staff team raided the premises on October 4 and arrested a man identified as Bablu. Police said 6.275 kg of freshly manufactured heroin was recovered from the facility.
The raid also led to the seizure of 2.504 kg of sodium, 787 grams of acetic anhydride and various equipment and materials allegedly being used in the illicit manufacturing process.
Among the items recovered were a tub, gas cylinder, mixer grinder, utensils, polythene, an electronic weighing machine and a wooden basket, police said.
During questioning and subsequent investigation, Bablu allegedly provided information about Ruksar Ali alias Raju, whom police identified as the suspected main supplier and owner of the manufacturing facility.
Police teams subsequently tracked Ruksar Ali and followed his movements over a distance of around 120 km before apprehending him in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh.
According to police, the investigation has revealed the alleged movement of heroin from its manufacturing stage to a wider distribution network operating in Delhi-NCR and neighbouring areas.
Further investigation is underway to establish the complete network and identify other people who may have been involved, police said.
