Delhi L-G Sandhu Asks NSUT, Tech Universities to Develop Solutions for Civic Challenges

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu issued the directions while chairing the sixth Court Meeting of Netaji Subhas University of Technology (NSUT) at Lok Niwas on Tuesday. He stressed the need to turn academic research into practical solutions for Delhi.

The Lieutenant Governor said the vision of a “Viksit Dilli” required moving from research to solutions and from innovation to measurable impact. He also called for AI education to remain future-ready through global collaboration, particularly in areas such as AI-enabled healthcare in government hospitals.

“AI education must stay future-ready through global collaboration, with focus on transformative applications, especially AI-enabled healthcare in government hospitals,” Sandhu said.

He urged NSUT to work with expert agencies and government departments, including the MCD, NDMC, Delhi Police, Health Department, PWD and Transport Department, to develop technology tailored to their requirements.

Sandhu also called for greater focus on skill-based courses in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and digital tools to improve employability. He encouraged international academic and industry partnerships to strengthen research, capabilities and global competitiveness.

Community engagement was another focus. He asked NSUT to continue programmes in adopted villages, focusing on employability, financial awareness and sports, particularly team games. The university was also asked to consider adopting urban centres and colonies in collaboration with resident welfare associations.

Sandhu further encouraged NCC and NSS students to participate in civic initiatives and suggested awards to recognise outstanding contributions.

The directions come as Delhi authorities have increasingly focused on technology-enabled civic services, including AI-based systems, waste management, public safety and improved service delivery.
