Delhi Burglary Case Ends in Conviction 12 Days After Chargesheet

Mannu Singh alias Mannu was convicted by Judicial Magistrate First Class Rohit Kumar at Dwarka Courts through an order dated September 26. The case was registered at Kapashera police station under Section 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), with Sections 317(2) and 331(3) later added during the investigation.

The burglary was reported on July 15 after Rs 1.50 lakh in cash along with gold and silver jewellery was allegedly stolen from a house in the area. Police began investigating the case and examined CCTV footage, which helped them identify Mannu, 29, a resident of Nala Road in Kapashera.

He was arrested on July 17, two days after the case was registered. Police said that, following his arrest, several stolen items were recovered from his house at his instance. The recovered property included silver articles and coins, a gold mangalsutra and gold earrings.

Following the recovery, the additional BNS sections were invoked and investigators completed the probe before filing the chargesheet in court on September 14.

The court convicted Mannu on September 26, marking the conclusion of proceedings 12 days after the chargesheet was submitted and 73 days after the reported burglary.

The prosecution was assisted by the Prosecution Branch, with Public Prosecutor Pushpender Verma presenting the evidence and facts before the court.

The investigation was led by Sub-Inspector Vijay Kumar and other police personnel under the supervision of Kapashera station house officer Inspector Vikram Dahiya and the overall guidance of Assistant Commissioner of Police, Vasant Kunj, Ved Parkash.

South-West District Police said the case demonstrated how CCTV analysis, an early arrest, recovery of stolen property and timely filing of the chargesheet can contribute to the speedy disposal of criminal cases.
