The indirect influence of Cyclone Murasu has delayed winter's arrival in West Bengal, with temperatures remaining above seasonal averages, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

However, weather conditions are expected to improve from Thursday, November 5, with temperatures likely to fall ahead of Kali Puja on November 8, bringing cooler conditions across the state.

The weather department has forecast scattered rainfall in parts of West Bengal on Tuesday due to the cyclone, which made landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast. The system has also prompted forecasts of heavy rainfall and red alerts for coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Tamil Nadu.

Although West Bengal is not expected to experience a direct impact from the cyclone, its peripheral influence is likely to affect local weather conditions. Partly cloudy skies are forecast across the state, with isolated spells of light rain.

Rainfall Forecast Across North and South Bengal

In north Bengal, Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Alipurduar and Cooch Behar may receive light rainfall at isolated locations. The remaining three districts are expected to remain dry.

In south Bengal, isolated light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is likely in North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, East Midnapore, West Midnapore, Jhargram, Bankura and Purulia. Other districts are expected to experience largely dry conditions.

The IMD has forecast predominantly dry weather across West Bengal from Wednesday through Saturday, with the likelihood of rainfall gradually decreasing.

As cloud cover clears, night-time temperatures are expected to decline, potentially bringing cooler conditions around Kali Puja.

Kolkata Records Above-Normal Night Temperature

Kolkata recorded a maximum temperature of 31.04 degrees Celsius on Monday, marginally above the normal level of 31 degrees Celsius.

The minimum temperature stood at 25.02 degrees Celsius, around 2.03 degrees above the seasonal average.

Relative humidity in the city ranged between 67 and 95 per cent, indicating continued moisture in the atmosphere.

The expected reduction in cloud cover and night temperatures could bring some relief from the prevailing warmth ahead of the festival.
