The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed 14 teams across Andhra Pradesh after Cyclone Murasu made landfall, with six districts expected to face the most severe impact.

Officials said no casualties had been reported so far, as rescue and response teams continued operations in coordination with state authorities.

NDRF Deputy Inspector General Mohsen Shahedi said the landfall process began around 1 a.m. on Tuesday and was completed by approximately 9 a.m., according to information received from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Of the 14 teams deployed in Andhra Pradesh, three were moved from neighbouring Tamil Nadu. NDRF personnel are working alongside the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local administration to manage the situation in the districts expected to be worst affected.

Five states placed under preparedness measures

Shahedi said the potential impact zone extended beyond Andhra Pradesh, with parts of Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and northern Tamil Nadu also identified as vulnerable to strong winds and heavy rainfall.

The NDRF accordingly deployed teams across all five states to strengthen preparedness and ensure a coordinated response.

He said the cyclone was expected to gradually weaken, reducing the likelihood of significant impacts outside Andhra Pradesh.

According to the latest assessment cited by the NDRF official, the system was expected to weaken into a cyclonic storm and subsequently into a deep depression by midnight.

Authorities are continuing to monitor weather conditions and coordinate response measures in the affected areas. No loss of life had been reported at the time of the update.
