CPI(M) Kerala state secretary M.V. Govindan on Saturday stepped up his criticism of the Congress-led UDF government, alleging that internal differences within the ruling alliance had widened and accusing Chief Minister.
Speaking to reporters in Palakkad, Govindan pointed to recent public criticism by UDF convener and Congress MP Adoor Prakash, who has questioned the lack of consultation within the alliance over government decisions. Prakash has said that several decisions were not communicated to him in his capacity as UDF convener and that alliance meetings had not been held regularly.
Govindan claimed that the differences reflected a wider divide within the Congress and the UDF. He said Prakash appeared to have greater support among sections of the Congress than Satheesan and questioned how the alliance could function effectively without discussions involving its constituent parties and leaders.
The CPI(M) leader also alleged that the Satheesan government was adopting positions that benefited the BJP and RSS. He described the government as “RSS-sponsored”, a political allegation made by the CPI(M) leader against the UDF administration.
Govindan further criticised the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), alleging that the party had yielded ground to what he described as the growing influence of the RSS.
His remarks come amid an increasingly public disagreement between Satheesan and sections of the UDF leadership. Adoor Prakash has said that only one UDF meeting had been held since the government assumed office and that important decisions should have been discussed with alliance leaders. The Satheesan camp, however, has maintained that some of the disputed appointments had already been discussed and settled.
The CPI(M) has also criticised the UDF government's decision to implement the Centre's PM SHRI scheme in Kerala, after the alliance had previously opposed the programme while in the Opposition. The Left party has accused the UDF of changing its position on the scheme, while the UDF has cited the need to access central funding.
Govindan's latest comments add to the CPI(M)'s broader opposition campaign against the new UDF government, which took office after the 2026 Kerala Assembly election. The Election Commission records Kerala's Legislative Assembly as having 140 constituencies.
