Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday criticised Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge over his remarks concerning Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing the Congress and its alliance partners.

Speaking to reporters, Gupta alleged that opposition leaders were struggling to accept the electorate’s verdict and had resorted to personal attacks against the Prime Minister.

“Congress, its leaders and all their alliance partners have become so frustrated that they have crossed all limits of what is considered civilised behaviour or decency,” she said, adding that their disappointment over electoral setbacks was reflected in their language and conduct.

The Delhi Chief Minister further accused opposition leaders of using abusive language and making remarks about the Prime Minister’s deceased parents.

“They are not sparing anything. They hurl abuses, speak ill and even target the deceased parents of the Prime Minister,” Gupta said.

Defending Modi’s popularity, she said voters across several states had repeatedly backed him and that his development agenda continued to resonate with the public.

“The public loves the Prime Minister. Time and again, people across so many states have voted to elect him, and his developmental work resides in their hearts. How will you remove that? You will gain nothing by hurling abuses like this,” she added.

Delhi’s Namo Yamuna River Safari Expected Before Chhath Puja

Gupta also spoke about the Delhi government’s proposed ‘Namo Yamuna – River Safari’, expressing hope that the initiative would be inaugurated before Chhath Puja.

She said the project would give residents an opportunity to experience the Yamuna from the water, offering a recreational activity similar to river boating experiences available in other cities.

“We plan to inaugurate this before Chhath. It will provide a special experience for the people of Delhi,” Gupta said, drawing a comparison with boating experiences on the Ganga, the Yamuna and other rivers.

She added that the safari would allow residents to spend time along the river and seek the blessings of “Mother Yamuna”.

According to Gupta, the surrounding area is also being developed as a picnic destination for families, with attention being paid to environmental protection and keeping the river clean.

The Delhi government has said trial runs have begun for the city’s first Yamuna River cruise service, which is intended to offer residents and visitors a different perspective of the capital’s skyline and heritage.

The initiative is also envisioned as a recreational corridor along a stretch of the Yamuna, with sustainability and environmental conservation forming key priorities.
