A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel sustained a gunshot injury while on duty in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district on Friday, with officials investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The injured trooper has been identified as Mohammad Mushtaq, a resident of Mari village in Reasi district. The incident reportedly occurred around 9.10 a.m. while he was performing his duties.
Officials said Mushtaq was initially taken to the District Hospital in Reasi, where he received emergency first aid. Given the seriousness of his condition, doctors subsequently referred him to a specialised medical facility in Jammu for further treatment.
The circumstances that led to the gunshot injury are being examined, and further details are awaited.
The incident comes days after four CISF personnel were killed in a firing incident at the Sewa-II Hydroelectric Project facility in the Mashka area of Kathua district on September 29. The incident reportedly followed an altercation among personnel deployed at the facility.
An internal inquiry was initiated into that incident, and the head constable accused in the case was handed over to the police. Those killed were Assistant Commandant Ankit Kumar Pandey, Sub-Inspector Lakshman Singh and constables Rafiq Ahmed and Sandeep Kumar.
In another incident involving security personnel, Naik Amarjeet Singh died on November 3, 2025, following an accidental rifle discharge while performing sentry duty at a military camp. He was evacuated to a nearby field hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
Earlier, on August 29, 2025, Naik Uppala Ravi Kumar of the 54 Rashtriya Rifles died in an accidental firing incident in Ganderbal district. Police registered a case after preliminary findings indicated that his service rifle had discharged unintentionally while he was on duty.
The latest incident in Reasi has once again drawn attention to firearm-related injuries involving personnel deployed in Jammu and Kashmir. However, the cause of Mushtaq's injury has not yet been established, and the ongoing investigation is expected to clarify the circumstances.
