A two-day special voter registration drive will be conducted at all 4,079 polling stations across Chennai district on October 10 and 11, giving eligible residents an opportunity to enrol as voters and update,
Organised under the directions of the Election Commission of India, the camps will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. The exercise will cover all 16 Assembly constituencies in the district.
District Election Officer G.S. Sameeran said the initiative aims to ensure that all eligible citizens are included in the electoral rolls ahead of the upcoming revision process.
Residents whose names are missing from the electoral rolls, those who have not yet registered and first-time voters have been encouraged to attend the camps. The drive will also assist young people who have recently turned 18 or are completing the eligibility requirements to register as voters.
Applicants have been advised to visit the polling station serving their area and carry the necessary documents supporting their application. Proof of age and residence will be required for new registrations and requests to update electoral details.
With camps being organised across the district, residents will have two days to approach their designated polling station and seek assistance with enrolment or corrections to their voter information.
The special drive is intended to bring eligible citizens who are currently outside the electoral rolls into the registration process while also providing existing voters an opportunity to update their particulars.
Sameeran urged eligible residents to make use of the facility and ensure that they have the required documents before visiting their polling station.
The camps will operate during the same hours on both October 10 and 11, covering all 4,079 polling stations across Chennai's 16 Assembly constituencies. Residents have been encouraged to use the district-wide exercise to register their names or update their electoral details.
