A bomb threat written on a piece of tissue paper was discovered at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata on Friday, prompting the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and a bomb disposal squad.
The handwritten note was reportedly found by cleaning staff in a women's restroom at the airport. It warned that a bomb had been planted near Gate No. 30, officials said.
The discovery triggered panic among the workers, who alerted senior officials. Security personnel subsequently cleared people from the affected entrance and launched searches in the area and other parts of the airport.
No suspicious object had been detected at the time of reporting, according to officials. Personnel from the CISF and the Airport Police Station, which falls under the Bidhannagar City Police, were involved in the security operation.
Police have begun questioning the cleaning staff who discovered the note and are investigating who may have accessed the restroom around the time it was found. CCTV footage is also being examined to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Security arrangements at the airport have been strengthened following the threat.
The incident comes as the airport is experiencing increased passenger traffic following the Durga Puja holidays. There were no immediate reports of disruption to flight operations.
This is the second bomb threat reported at Kolkata airport this month. On October 8, airport authorities received a similar threat via email, following which a thorough search was conducted. No suspicious object was found during that operation.
