Uttar Pradesh Minister Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary on Friday expressed confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would win all 11 seats it is contesting in the state’s Legislative Council elections for Graduates.
Speaking to IANS, Chaudhary said polling was underway across five Graduate constituencies and six Teacher constituencies, with the BJP having fielded candidates for all 11 seats.
He said party workers had campaigned extensively at the grassroots level and urged voters to support BJP candidates.
Referring to the initial polling trends, the minister said voters were turning up at polling stations in significant numbers, with queues visible at several booths. He also expressed confidence in the public’s faith in the country’s democratic institutions.
Chaudhary rejects political motive behind Varanasi air show
Responding to remarks by former Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Rai regarding the upcoming air show in Varanasi, Chaudhary rejected the allegation that the event was a political stunt by the BJP.
He said the laser air show was linked to national security and the broader objective of protecting the country.
Chaudhary criticised the Congress for what he described as a careless approach to national security issues, urging the party to consider security concerns before making political statements on the matter.
His remarks came amid a political exchange over the planned event in Varanasi.
BJP MLA also expresses confidence in party leadership
Earlier, BJP MLA Nand Kishor Gurjar expressed confidence in the party’s leadership at the state and regional levels.
Gurjar said Opposition leaders would need to reassess their allegations if the BJP secured victories despite criticism from rival parties.
He also argued that allegations of electronic voting machine (EVM) manipulation and vote theft amounted to an insult to voters who had elected their representatives.
These comments reflected the BJP leaders’ confidence in the party’s electoral prospects, although the outcome will be determined by the official results.
Polling underway across four states
Polling began on Friday for 28 Legislative Council seats across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka and Maharashtra.
In Uttar Pradesh, elections are being held for five Graduate constituencies and six Teacher constituencies. Bihar is voting for four Graduate and four Teacher constituencies.
The elections form part of the legislative council electoral process across the four states, with candidates contesting for representation in the respective councils.
