Bharatiya Janata Party leaders on Wednesday described Prime Minister Narendra Modi's completion of 25 years as head of government as a historic milestone, highlighting his political journey.

Bharatiya Janata Party leaders on Wednesday described Prime Minister Narendra Modi's completion of 25 years as head of government as a historic milestone, highlighting his political journey from Gujarat Chief Minister to Prime Minister.

Modi's tenure as head of government began on October 7, 2001, when he took charge as Gujarat Chief Minister. He became Prime Minister in 2014 and has since completed three consecutive terms in office.

Speaking about the milestone, BJP Bihar President Sanjay Saraogi said Modi had spent the past 25 years serving Gujarat and the country, focusing on reaching different sections of society. He described Modi as a leader who had held constitutional positions continuously while pursuing the goal of strengthening and developing the country.

BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal called the occasion a matter of pride for Indians and said it was particularly significant for BJP workers as Modi completed 25 years as an elected head of government.

Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa described the milestone as significant and historic, saying Modi had completed 25 years in public service across his tenures as Chief Minister and Prime Minister.

Delhi Minister Ashish Sood said Modi's 25 years in constitutional positions had been marked by initiatives aimed at changing people's lives. He highlighted measures relating to youth entrepreneurship, startups and social harmony.

Delhi Minister Ravindra Indraj Singh also praised Modi's tenure, saying the Prime Minister had worked with the stated objective of building a developed India and advancing the country's global standing.

Modi's political career at the head of a government began in Gujarat in 2001, where he served as Chief Minister for more than 12 years. He later became the BJP's prime ministerial candidate and led the party to a majority in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

The BJP subsequently returned to power under his leadership in 2019 and 2024. Modi became the first Prime Minister after Jawaharlal Nehru to lead a government for three consecutive terms.

The BJP's celebrations around the milestone have sought to connect Modi's tenure in Gujarat with initiatives later expanded at the national level.

A Union Cabinet resolution highlighted programmes launched during his Gujarat tenure, including the SWAGAT grievance-redressal system and the Jyotigram scheme.

SWAGAT, under which Modi personally reviewed citizens' grievances, received the United Nations Public Service Award in 2010. Its approach later influenced PRAGATI, the Centre's platform for reviewing major projects and addressing implementation-related bottlenecks.

The BJP has been observing Modi's 25 years in public life through the month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, which began on his birthday on September 17.

The campaign has included blood donation camps, cleanliness drives, welfare activities, exhibitions, cultural programmes and other public service initiatives.

The BJP is also organising events across several states to mark the occasion, including torch marches, motorcycle and cycle rallies and exhibitions documenting Modi's political journey from Gujarat to the Prime Minister's Office.

In Delhi, the main Seva Jyoti programme is scheduled at the Indira Gandhi Stadium Complex, with BJP workers and supporters from organisational units across the national capital expected to participate.
