The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar Police conducted searches at multiple premises linked to BJP leader Rajnish Kumar Pathak, also known as Rinku Pathak, in Motihari on Tuesday as part of an investigation.
EOU officials, accompanied by local police personnel, reached the premises around 6 a.m. and searched Pathak’s residence and business establishments, including his gas agency.
A sizeable police contingent was deployed at the locations as investigators examined documents relating to properties, business interests and financial transactions.
According to preliminary findings cited by the EOU, Pathak and his wife, Kiran Devi, allegedly accumulated assets exceeding their known sources of income. The agency has estimated the assets under scrutiny at approximately ₹3.56 crore, reportedly 124.81 per cent above their known income.
Properties and Business Interests Under Scrutiny
Pathak represents Ward No. 7 of the Kesariya Nagar Panchayat, while his wife serves as the civic body’s chief councillor. Pathak is also a former chief councillor.
The investigation reportedly began after the EOU received a complaint alleging that Pathak had accumulated substantial wealth over the past decade.
Investigators are examining properties and business interests associated with him in Motihari, Kesariya and other locations to establish the extent and sources of the assets under scrutiny.
Officials have not yet disclosed whether cash, documents or other items were seized during Tuesday’s searches. Further details are expected after the search operations are completed.
Investigation Continues
Security arrangements were tightened around the premises being searched, with access restricted while the EOU team carried out its investigation.
Pathak has reportedly faced criminal cases in the past, including an extortion case, and was previously lodged in Saharsa Jail. Details concerning the circumstances and outcomes of those cases were not immediately available.
The current investigation centres on allegations of disproportionate assets. The claims against Pathak and his wife remain subject to the findings of the EOU investigation and any subsequent legal proceedings.
