The Indian Army's Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School (CIJWS) at Vairengte in Mizoram conducted a two-week training programme for 83 NCC cadets, giving them exposure to the professional environment and training.
The programme, held from September 21 to October 4, was designed to complement routine NCC training by introducing the cadets to military discipline, physical conditioning, field skills and teamwork.
During the programme, the cadets took part in drill and physical training as well as sessions on firing, map reading, fieldcraft, survival techniques, first aid and team-building. They were also introduced to aspects of jungle warfare and given an opportunity to familiarise themselves with military weapons, equipment and night-vision systems.
The training also focused on how technology and innovation are changing modern warfare. As part of the programme, the cadets visited the Information and Research Centre, IED Hall and Technovation Hall, where they were introduced to developments relevant to contemporary military operations and training.
The programme included motivational interactions aimed at developing confidence, leadership qualities, discipline and a sense of service among the participants.
Training in mixed groups also brought together cadets from different parts of Mizoram, encouraging teamwork and camaraderie while promoting a broader sense of collective identity.
The CIJWS is an Indian Army institution specialising in training and research related to counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations. The school also conducts specialised programmes for military personnel from other countries.
The Army said the engagement with NCC cadets forms part of the CIJWS's wider efforts to connect with young people in Mizoram. By exposing students to the institution's training environment, the initiative aims to expand their understanding of military life and encourage greater participation in national service and nation-building activities.
The programme also reflects the Army's efforts to use its training expertise beyond military instruction, with a focus on character development, national integration and strengthening engagement between the armed forces and local communities.
