Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah's upcoming visit to Bhopal is set to highlight Madhya Pradesh's dairy and livestock economy, with more than 35,000 cattle rearers expected to participate.

Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah's upcoming visit to Bhopal is set to highlight Madhya Pradesh's dairy and livestock economy, with more than 35,000 cattle rearers and members of dairy cooperative societies expected to participate in a state-level Gopalak Conference.

Shah is scheduled to arrive in Bhopal around 9 p.m. on October 2 and stay overnight. His visit on October 3 will include programmes covering farmers, livestock rearers, cooperative institutions, the implementation of new criminal laws, higher education and road infrastructure.

The Gopalak Conference will be the main event of the visit. Participants are expected to attend from Bhopal as well as districts including Sehore, Betul, Rajgarh, Harda, Guna, Ashoknagar, Shajapur, Vidisha, Raisen and Narmadapuram.

During the conference, Shah is expected to distribute bonuses to livestock rearers associated with the Bhopal and Indore milk unions and extend financial assistance to gaushalas.

The programme will also include the recognition of Gopalak Didis and the distribution of approval letters under the Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Kamdhenu Scheme.

Shah is also expected to receive updates on initiatives undertaken as part of Madhya Pradesh's Year of Farmer Welfare and the Balram Agriculture Festival. Officials from the state Home, Animal Husbandry and Dairy, Cooperation, Public Works and Transport departments are scheduled to make presentations on their respective initiatives.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav reviewed arrangements for the Union minister's visit on Monday and instructed officials to ensure adequate arrangements for seating, drinking water, sanitation, security and traffic management.

The visit comes as the state government continues to promote cooperative institutions and dairy infrastructure as part of its wider approach to agriculture and rural livelihoods.

Several dairy-sector projects are also expected to feature during the visit, including a proposed Rs 255-crore dairy plant in Ujjain and a facility in Bhopal focused on formulated and fermented milk products.

The Bhopal facility, built at a cost of Rs 16.80 crore on the premises of the Bhopal Milk Union, is intended to expand the production of value-added dairy products including curd, buttermilk, lassi, shrikhand and mawa.

The focus on farmers and rural livelihoods also comes as Madhya Pradesh continues to expand its Farmer ID system, which is aimed at strengthening the identification and delivery of government services to farmers.
